Smoke Signals and other news
My memories since Sunday are few and seem very far away. I knew Sunday afternoon something was off but thought I could just push through it. It did not quite go as planned. By Monday after experiencing a high fever, being extremely weak, and ill, my brother took me to the doctor where I was diagnosed with strep. I received a shot and a prescription. I was already taking antibiotic for another infection that “should” have taken care of the strep. It didn’t. I slept basically from Sunday afternoon until sometime late Tuesday. I am fortunate to have family and friends who looked after me ensuring I had food and plenty of liquids. I was brought homemade chicken vegetable soup from two family members.
My daughter came and took my little Charlie to stay with her, so I didn’t have to struggle to feed him and take him out. I hope to pick him up later today. I am blessed to have people in my life who care. If you texted, called, prayed for me, I am grateful. For being able to work from home as able, I am grateful.
Along the way, I noticed itching after taking the new antibiotic. It became unbearable. I stopped taking it and was prescribed two new ones. I certainly hope these work causing no worse side effects. Fortunately, we had no games going on at the fields, only registrations and practices for the upcoming soccer and adult coed softball seasons. For those who took care of the needs at the fields, I am grateful.
Great grandson Hank has not made his appearance yet, but he has sent Mom to the hospital three times with false alarms. He should arrive soon. Our family has several September birthdays and each one is hoping for his arrival on their special day. Above all, we pray for a safe and uneventful delivery for mom and baby.
My always brave Olivia complained a time or two that her left foot hurt a bit; other times, she went on her way practicing softball, running and playing at her usual pace. Her mom noticed the foot was discolored. They were off to the after-hours clinic where she was diagnosed with a broken growth plate in her foot. She is now in a walking boot, but hasn’t slowed down much.
Two of grandchildren are off to college – one in his last semester at Mississippi State where he will graduate in December with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has taken on several internships in his college career and held down a full-time job at an Engineering Firm over the summer. He has had more than one job offer after graduation. His sister is in her sophomore year at the University of Mississippi also majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She looks forward to her first internship next summer. She is loving college life, balancing school, campus activities, and theater productions.
