Smoke Signals and other news

Soccer signup continues

My week started out with a severe attack of Vertigo. I hadn’t had it in so long, it took a couple of days before I realized what it was. Staying in bed all day seems like a great idea until you are forced to do so. I literally got up to feed the dog and take him out. I could eat very little so that was not even a concern. The kind I have does not respond to medication, so treatment consist of some vertigo “maneuvers” and rest. In the interim, I just got further behind on everything.

Again, there is a “pack” of five or six dogs running in our area. I love animals; however, not ones that come into my yard and are aggressive toward whoever or whatever happens to be outside. I have to go into “defense” mode just to take the dog out and am wary walking to my car. I have been attacked in the past by a dog I had rescued, and it was not pleasant. There were x-rays and tetanus shots involved, concerns about rabies along with blood literally running down my driveway from the bites. I cannot imagine what would happen if a “pack” came after anyone. I wonder if that’s what happened to the one cat? The wilder one has reappeared making late night visits to the feeding spot on the porch. I can watch him on the cameras but that’s as close as I can get.

It was off to the vet with Charlie this week for treatment for his regular ear infection and his seasonal allergies. She tried something different to treat both and I can only hope for good results.

Soccer signups continue through Friday of this week for ages three to twelve for the Town of Byhalia. We want your little ones to play with us and know the basics whether they decide to pursue the sport in high school or just enjoy it now. We are in need of a few coaches and can always use referees.

Saturday afternoon I attended a birthday party for two of the great grandkids. Their birthdays are close together, and since they are young, they have a combined party. Brother number three is due soon and next year maybe it will be a party for all three boys! Actually, it’s a party everyday with those two. Mom and dad will definitely have their hands full soon.

The last of the County Comprehensive Planning meeting was held this week in Byhalia with a diverse group of about sixty local citizens in attendance. It was an informative meeting with many questions asked and answered. I encourage you to get involved in your town, community, and county. So much is being decided daily as the area continues to grow. Industry continues to develop providing jobs and helping the economy, but with that growth comes a need for housing, improved schools, infrastructure, larger police and fire departments and more.
