Wheelbarrow makes it to the stage

Another week of fun summer heat. I grew up without air conditioning of any kind at home, school, in cars, or church and nearly froze if I visited a home that had it. I, for one, have gotten very accustomed to the luxury of central air and would not enjoy it’s absence. Those of you who are able to work out in the heat are strong. I’m in the heat every night at the ball field and even being under the front covered area, it is hot. One night this week I truly overheated and did not enjoy that at all. We are doing all we can to keep the players cooled downed with shortened game times and frequent water breaks.

My daughter, Ellen, was here this week. She chose to fly this time. The trip here was uneventful and I picked her up at the airport with little trouble. I took her back to the airport Friday night and the first leg of the trip went well. She had many delays and issues in Charlotte-late flight attendants, a passenger who threw up over a wide area causing the plane to have to be professional cleaned, and then engine failure. Mechanics were called in to repair the engine. Fortunately, all of this happened before they took off. Sometimes those annoying delays are there to save your life, literally. Keep that in mind when you encounter delays. By the time she reached home, she could have made the drive home. Flying in also meant using my car all week. It was rather nice not be able to go anywhere for a few days.

Last weekend’s production of “Pippin” that Mary Claire was in was so enjoyable that I went back Saturday night. There is so much happening on stage at once, you see new things each time. There is some outstanding talent in that cast and, as always, Mary Claire was brilliant in her dancing. She is a joy to watch. It’s always fun when she is in a show and needs “old things” as props. She comes “shopping” at my house or in the shed at her other grandparents former home. This time my old wheelbarrow made a cameo appearance on stage.

My outside cat that you have heard stories about has once again disappeared. She’s been gone a couple of weeks this time. I’ve checked the usual places including sheds, the garage, and even the attic, but no cat this time. She may be gone for good, but I’ll let you know if she shows back up. Before you complain because she lived outside, it was her choice, only choosing inside status when it was extremely cold. I haven’t seen the other stray that appeared a few weeks ago either.

Say an extra prayer for all the teachers and kids going back to school this week. Never did I start back in July. One reason was the buildings were not air conditioned and also so many of our classmates had to help gather fall crops before starting back to school.

Remember to sign your kids up for fall sports programs of your choice. There are many to choose from.
