Smoke Signals and other news
Graduations for kindergarteners, high schoolers, and college graduates are plentiful. Little ones will be ready for first grade in the fall, high schoolers will be off to college, careers, or maybe even marriage but for all it will be a new exciting chapter in their lives. Encourage these young people to be the best they can be wherever they are in their lives.
Remember also those young people who just finished a year of college. Some breezed through while others struggled every day all the way through the last exam. Some partied and some disciplined themselves to study even when they really would have liked to enjoy a bit of party time. From reports I get from my grandchildren, college life is the same yet different in so many ways than when some of us attended. I am proud to see each one explore opportunities they never knew were available, find new passions while still enjoying things they have always loved, and figure out how to balance their time for work, study, and play.
It was back to exercise class for me this week. My body doesn't so much enjoy all the stretching and movement at the time, but it is making a difference in my day-to-day life. All are invited to join us at 10 a.m. Each Wednesday at the Flame behind the Methodist Church in Byhalia. This class is for men and women of all ages.
County baseball, softball, and t-ball regular season will be coming to a close at the end of May, with the post season tournament to be played in Potts Camp beginning June 2. Most of the kids have worked hard all season and have learned new skills and made new friends both in their town and even across the county. It looks like we will have at least one all star team going to state and World Series. This is something we once did on a regular basis but have not been able to do the last few years. It is good to see the coaches and parents moving back in that direction as it is an experience these youngsters will remember for a long time.
Byhalia will have a Summer Ball program. All games will be played in Byhalia. Usually, this program is a little more relaxed with emphasis on training even during the games. Sign up at Byhalia-MS.com by June 13. Games will run from June 26 until August 7.
Have you noticed the “1 hour Parking” signs placed in front of Byhalia Nutrition Shop by the Town of Byhalia? The signs apply to all three parking places and will be monitored by local police. This was done in an effort to help with the lack of parking for businesses in the area and allow more parking for patrons. Please respect the parking restrictions.
