Smoke Signals and other news

The cat is just a wanderer

Hopefully, it's just the weather, but I have been especially tired and hurting the last few days. I've never experienced allergies during the Spring pollen explosion but now I know why others were miserable from it. The combination of meds I'm having to take are keeping me sleepy and I've had more than my share of naps. I've always worked outside in the garden and yard, cutting my own grass and planting vegetables and flowers with no reaction. The planting days for me are over, but I still hope to be able to cut my own grass as I actually enjoy it. I did let someone else do it last weekend as it really needed it, and I just wasn't up to it.

The cat reappeared about midweek and acted as though she had not even been gone. She was not stuck in a building, trailer, garage or attic. She is spayed and not normally prone to wandering but guess she had somewhere else to be.

A neighbor's dog consistently visits the outdoor cat's food bowl appearing in the middle of the night for a snack. Now suddenly two more dogs that I don't recognize are stopping by to eat. I'm afraid these two may have been dumped. One is pregnant or just recently had puppies and the other may be. I never get a really good look at them as by the time the cameras alert me, and I look they are leaving. I truly hope they have not been dropped to fend for themselves. I also hope they are not aggressive if I or my little dog encounter them directly.

Other than the dogs, we also have homeless and some not homeless people who roam the roads and seem to think they can just take whatever they find. I am sorry they are homeless and have been known to help in many ways, but don't steal from me or my neighbors because you won't work. Yes, I know there are those who cannot work, but still they have no right to steal. I have been the victim a couple of times so now I have the cameras to show me who is outside and just what they are doing.

The Byhalia Chamber of Commerce had a nice luncheon this week. I was glad I got to attend. Yummy food and an interesting speaker were enjoyed by all who attended.

Two doctors' appointments this week went well with overall good prognosis. The liver doctor believes I am tolerating this new medicine well, but it is too soon to do any liver scans to see if there is improvement. The bloodwork looked ok, but it cannot show the true picture of what is going on. The other doctor has scheduled me for further test for another issue that has been hanging on for years. I would love to get to the bottom of that one.

We had a beautiful week for practices for 175 players for T Ball, softball, and baseball. It's fun watching kids figure out the game and where they need to run to, position themselves, or throw the ball.

Their faces when they finally learn to consistently hit the ball are incredible. Then, of course, there are the tears from a scraped knee or being hit with a ball. Usually, those can be fixed with an ice pack or a Band-Aid and a hug.

We had the yellow topping for the fences and the concrete around the concession stand powered washed this week. It made quite a difference in the appearance of both.

We have other improvements and repairs lined up but we desperately need more space. Practicing and playing 14 teams on two fields is a challenge. We are making it work for practices, but games are going to be a different story. It's a great problem to have.
