Smoke Signals and other news
With spring always comes the possibility of storms, although for our area they can come anytime of year. I am not one to panic at the sound of thunderstorms; however, I greatly respect the potential damage that they may bring. While our property has never had major damage from a storm, we have had our share of downed trees, roof damage, trampolines flying through the air and smaller sheds ripped to pieces. We seemed to have been spared with Saturday’s events, but others were not so fortunate.
Last month I actually bought something for myself in the midst of renovations of the house. It’s not often that I do so, as honestly there is little I need, and I am trying to declutter. After much consideration and research, I bought a new recliner. Since I spend a great deal of my time at home in the chair, I wanted something comfy. I ended up with a chair that heats and vibrates and adjusts to various positions. I do enjoy using it, maybe a bit too much.
On Tuesday, the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce hosted what will be known as “Muffins with the Mayor” where Mayor Don Hollingsworth shared the many projects currently happening in Byhalia. He was available to answer questions for the large group of attendees. Our little town is growing rapidly, and the town is trying to meet the many challenges this brings. This is planned to become a quarterly event. Information, muffins and beverages were enjoyed by all.
It’s the time of the year that the bees are swarming. If you see a swarm that may have chosen an inconvenient place to live, call one of our many bee apiaries in the area and they will gladly collect them and move them to a more appropriate location. Our bee population has diminished greatly, and they are important to our environment. Remember when you start mowing your lawn, if you have clover, leave a patch for the bees as this is their first food for the season.
On Saturday, March 22, the Wheels for Bryson fundraiser will take place at Victory Church at 21 Vinson Road in Byhalia beginning at 12 noon until 6 p.m. Barbecue plates will be available for $10 with desserts available separately. Gospel singers will be sharing their talents all day. There will
be raffles and a silent auction. T- Shirt sales will be available while supplies last. Crafts vendors will be set up. The petting zoo will be there from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Bryson plans to attend a portion of the day. Come out and support this young man. His family needs a handicap van for his transport, a walk-in shower, and a new ramp for his wheelchair. Let me know if you want to help or donate an item for the raffle or silent auction.
