Smoke Signals and other news
I’m glad to say this week was better even if I was still in recovery mode from whatever took me down last week. I contacted my liver specialist through the “portal” on Monday just to give him an update. Tuesday morning I was sitting in his office. He wasn’t at all sure that the issues I had were related to the medication. He did agree I should stay off the medication until Monday of this week and start back on it when he is in the office in case I have another reaction. I will try it one more time as it is crucial that I take it.
I accomplished only a few things this week as my body only wanted to rest. I painted a couple more pieces of furniture, was able to go into work for a few hours Tuesday and Friday, actually got my passport applied for – that’s a process – and set up one more interview for the upcoming profile edition. I hope to finish that one and complete at least one more this week. Be sure to pick up your March 6 Profile Edition of The South Reporter.
I managed to somewhat quietly celebrate my 74th birthday on Wednesday. I had many messages, Facebook wishes, phone calls, a few visitors, got flowers from my granddaughter, and even received a present. A sweet much younger cousin has asked to take me out Sunday night along with another family member, who also celebrated her birthday recently. It is nice for the younger folks to take time to spend with their “elders.”
I’m still trying to put this house back together one room and sometimes one item at a time. It is amazing what one can accumulate in 74 years. I continue to declutter each closet, each chest, dresser, trunk, and box. Might as well do it now so family doesn’t have to do it later. There will still be plenty left. I created a large pile of coats and jackets from the assortment Doug and I had acquired. There is no way I could ever wear all these even with the variety needed for Mississippi weather. I picked out my favorites and probably a few I could have done without and quickly gave away the rest. I keep an extra in my car.
If you live within the “city limits” of any of our communities in the county who will have Mayor/Board of Alderman elections coming up this Spring, do your research on the candidates. Find out why they want to run your town and how they are qualified. If there is an opportunity to “meet the candidates,” attend the event and asked questions, if allowed. When election day arrives, VOTE. You can make a difference.
If you are an animal person, you may understand this. My little one gets so upset when I don’t just sit in my recliner or lay on the bed so he can be in my lap or beside me on the bed. He knows if I am getting ready to leave the house for a while and he will go and sadly lay on the bed until I return, at which time he is so excited I have returned. When what he considers “mealtime” or “bedtime” arrives, there is no peace until he is fed or I go to bed. He is truly a faithful, although demanding, companion.
