Seeing the pictures of all the sweet little ones (and not so little ones) headed back to school brings back lots of memories not only of each first day for my children but even back to my first days of a new school year. Today’s children face so many challenges that never even crossed our minds. I think, too, of the parents who have lost their children and can only imagine the rush of buying school supplies and new clothes and going to meet the teacher. Please be mindful of school buses stopped to load and unload children.
The hummingbirds are emptying at least one feeder a day. Best I can count there are at twelve now that the neighbor stopped filling her feeders. The newer ones seem braver than my original crew, sometimes flying up within just a few feet of me and hovering while they check me out.
Thank you for the prayers for the great-grandson. He has undergone more testing for which we are waiting for results. The consensus now is that the teeth will have to be capped before open-heart surgery can take place due to the possibility of infection from the teeth. Keeping him playing quietly is an impossible task as he is “all boy” and doesn’t enjoy quiet play. Mom has her hands full with him, a seven-year-old and a ten-month-old. We do go visit and try to give her a break!
Do you have Walmart Plus? With my declining health, I am a frequent user of the free delivery service. Some days it is all I can do to bring it inside and put it away. Am I the only person who did not realize there are more benefits than free delivery? Check your app! You can get 10 cents off a gallon of gas at various locations. You can get Paramount or another popular streaming service at no charge. Since I recently canceled my DISH account this has been quite handy. I am not a big TV watcher and only had DISH for Doug since that was about all he could manage in his last few years. There are other benefits that may fit your situation.
As I prepare to submit this article to the paper this week, the active shooter situation in Byhalia has been resolved. How sad that this type of thing can happen in our small quiet town or anywhere for that matter. Someone had come to a point in their life that to them this was the way to solve something. There are resources that can help but a person has to want help and reach out for it. Unfortunately, I encounter people way too often who are in desperate need of rehab of some type but are not ready to accept it or even admit it is needed. Because of this, some have no home, but feel it is acceptable to take advantage of good-hearted people, steal, lie, and make no effort to seek reliable employment.
