Smoke Signals

Again, we seemed to be blessed with relief from the extreme heat and humidity. I can basically stay inside during the scorching days but so many cannot. I cut my grass when I see there is a break in the heat and I have someone who does the weed eating and other things I cannot do outside anymore. I did notice crews in DeSoto County working on the roads at night this week.

The heat has taken a toll on air conditioning units this week with several businesses around town having to function several hours without the benefit of cool air. Byhalia Nutrition was one of those. Fortunately, it was a simple fix once the technician arrived but there were some very warm hours inside the building. Thank you to all the employees and customers who endured the heat.

Ellen and Olivia made a quick appearance this week. I am always so grateful for any time I get with them. They came for the urgent heart surgery for my 3-year-old great-grandson. Doctors attempted to go in through the groin and repair the hole in his heart, open the stuck valve, and make other repairs. When his parents were called for a consultation only a few minutes into the procedure we knew the day would not go as we had hoped. They were not able to complete the repairs in this manner. He will be facing open heart surgery in the near future. Please pray for this sweet three-year-old and his family.

While she was here, Ellen painted the windows at Byhalia Nutrition. Stop by and take a look if you are in the area. She did not get her drawing/painting talent from me. My grandmother could draw and one aunt was a true artist on my side of the family and there are some artistically talented folks on her dad’s side. Olivia seems to have inherited much of that talent also.

Parking in Byhalia is scarce around many of the businesses. The three parking spaces in front of Byhalia Nutrition are all one-hour parking to allow customers time to park and shop. They are not for all-day parking. Please be courteous so that everyone can use the spaces as intended.

Sunday morning, I was surprised to see a large number of hummingbirds at my feeder. Later in the day I found out my neighbor had stopped filling her feeders so guess they all came next door. I will feed them until they all leave for the season.
