A new life, a new day

The week begins with a thankful heart and prayers for those dealing with the loss of family members, homes, and businesses from the recent tornadoes in our state and neighboring states, Arkansas and Tennessee. Mississippi and other states deal with the chance of deadly tornadoes touching down and bringing death and destruction.

Saturday was the first day of April. Some played April Fools on those who can take a joke. I have found that not everyone can take a joke. But it is all good fun.

Tomorrow is Good Friday. A day observe the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, and Black Friday.

As a Christian, I recognized the day my Lord and Savior died on the Cross for my sins, but I also believe He rose again on the third day. I haven’t always thought that this man from Galilee came and walked this earth, teaching and performing miracles for all to hear and see. I was 21 years old when I realized and believed.

Back in the day I didn’t make it to church every Sunday, but I would go occassionally. My father’s family was Catholic, and I attended Catholic school until seventh grade. My mother was a member of the Baptist Church, and as I got older, I attended the Baptist Church with her. I enjoyed going to both churches.

I learned about God and His son Jesus when I attended school. I was also taught many bible stories and attended Sunday School at Killen Baptist Church in Alabama.

I knew about God, Jesus, and Bible readings but did not know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I did not know him in my heart. I had not accepted him as my Lord and Savior.

What I knew of this man who walked the earth was heavy on my mind when I was twenty-one. I searched for the answers by reading the bible at night when I came home from work or going out with friends. Then one night, while reading my bible after going out with friends, I read about His grace and mercy. That is when I decided to believe Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and that He died on the Cross for all my sins, and He rose again so that we all may have eternal life.

I was a new person. “No longer I live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20). This was one of the first verses I came across in the bible not too long after that night.

I know there are many different religions and beliefs. I also believe that life is a journey. My journey brought me to this belief.

Sunday will be the day that I will observe, as well as many others, the resurrection of the Son of God, Easter. “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11: 25-26)

Every day is a new journey, but my journey is with my Lord and Savior.
