Lunch with special friends
Last week was busy week but Tuesday will be marked as a memorable day in my book. Some friends came by the office with a few words of encouragement and to thank the staff at the newspaper for all the years they have served the community.
Tuesday is press day, and the editorial and production staff are working hard to prepare the newspaper to be published. The Pigeon Roost News production employees are working on inserting all the great deals from Cash Saver in Holly Springs, Reeds Grocery Store in Byhalia, Ollies, Dollar General, and the coupon inserts. It’s a busy day. We usually have a meal chosen for lunch, and everyone contributes a special dish, but lately, we’ve all brought our lunch.
Last Tuesday, we were all surprised when Christy Owens, former Holly Springs Main Street Chamber director, and Sarah Fay Sawyer, former Byhalia Main Street Chamber director, walked in with lunch, gifts, and a special letter to the staff.
We all took a break to enjoy the delicious barbecue, beans, slaw, cupcakes, and fellowship. We laughed and shared stories. Then, Christy and Sarah pulled out a picture frame with a typed letter placed inside.
It was a letter to the newspaper. The newspaper receives its share of letters, but this special letter and lunch was their unique way of thanking us for providing the news in Marshall County.
I hope all the mother’s had a wonderful weekend celebrating their day. My daughter and I had a wonderful weekend.
Helen Steiner Rice has written a beautiful poem about mother’s that I would like to share.
A MOTHER’S LOVE
By Helen Steiner Rice
A mother’s love is
something that no on can
explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice
and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring
come what may
For nothing can destroy
it or take that
love away.
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or
falters even though
the heart is breaking.
It believes beyond believing
when the world around
condemns,
And it glows with all the
beauty of the rarest,
brightest gems.
It is far beyond defining, it
defies all explanation,
And it still remains
a secret like the
mysteries of creation.
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous
evidence of God’s
tender guiding hand.
