LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:

Regarding proposed new flag

To the Editor: What a pivotal time in our state's history that we as Mississippi voters get to carefully consider, then decide, what the fabric and emblem of our new state flag should look like. What will it represent? It's not a small thing. But have we carefully considered it?

In this time of COVID we haven't really been paying attention. As voters we have no other design choices on the ballot. It's way past time to relegate our previous flag to history (thank you legislature) but is the proposed, rushed, new flag the one? It's bold, colorful and striking, but so is the Venezuelan flag. The magnolia in the center, which should be the highlight, pales in comparison to the bold colorful side stripes. Perhaps the magnolia image should be more impactful?

I don't think we should pass this flag vote so fast. I for one would like to see a few options or at least to punch up the design in the proposed one.

Thank you, Julie DeBardeleben
