LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:

We will do what we can to keep Area 3 as is

To the Editor:

In replying to the letter last week from Holly Springs Mayor Kelvin Buck, the annexations of Areas 1, 2 and 4 would be great for Holly Springs due to their locations – great for everyone economically.

No so with Area 3 – single family houses, nothing commercial, no major roads, highways or streets, county living, farming.

Here are the facts – Area 3 only.

1. Garbage fees: currently both are using Team Waste – city, $24.48 per month; county, $13.72. Increase of 10.86 per month.

2. Auto license, property – current rate for the City of Holly Springs, 39.02 mils. That means for every $100 you pay now, you will pay $139.02 in the city.

The proposed annex Area 3 takes in Higdon Road to Byard property, Carpenter Road, Jennifer Road, extension off Jennifer Road and the end of Rising Star Road to Lesure property.

Ilived in the city for 30 years. Two years ago my wife and I decided to build a house on our little farm, county life and low taxes – first house in the county. Great place!

In this area, our house has been the only one built in five years – no new homes under construction or any place that shows any signs of new homes, subdivisions or any new development of any kind. Our area is not the most sought-after area around Holly Springs – no flat land, mostly hills and ditches. Our homes, why we were chosen, does not make sense to me.

Now the question is what we may expect to get in return for this huge increase in taxes, car licenses and services.

1. Roads – Drive out Salem Road to where the county-city line-stripe starts. County road, drive over the entire Area 3. You can judge who has pot holes and the best road.

2. Electricity, gas, water – we have them all, thanks to the city.

3. Fire hydrants, we have those.

4. Very little crime of any kind.

I canvassed the area and did not find one person for it. One person wanted to check for himself and told me to write a letter to the editor – make it public.

Most know nothing about it and said, “Oh no!” They resented not being notified in any form from anyone as to what was proposed.

We are happy in the county and support HollySprings and their businesses. I have several businesses in the city, and when we found out about it and talked to Christy Owens, since this is her ward, people in the city did not think it was fair to do this, plus the ones in Area 3 of annexation. She voted against it. She is our voice! We applaud her for all of the good things she has done. She has always promoted Holly Springs’ activities and business. She does a great job.

An open meeting to discuss would be great. Just let us know. We will do what we can to keep Area 3 as it is, our county living and farming community.
