Bank of Holly Springs

Letter to the Editor: I love this life in my favorite town, Holly Springs

To the Editor:

This is my day to talk about my favorite town of Holly Springs in the great State of Mississippi.

I can go to Carlisle’s Cash Saver grocery store and have the best service, good meat, good conversation, and then have a nice young man take my groceries to the car. I can walk on over to Booker’s Hardware Store and get service from great folks who know their business. If Booker’s doesn’t have it, then surely Teddy’s does.

And then when I want to have a rewarding day of shopping, I just have to head over to The Retro Rooster. This is honestly one of the best stores I have ever shopped in. If they don’t have something (which is nearly impossible), then I am bound to find it at Regel and Co. And I can order some flowers or pottery from them and they will deliver it to the house, for free.

I try to stay away from all drugs, prescription or not, but if I needed a prescription, I would walk on over to Tyson’s, and while I am waiting on my prescription I could get some ice cream from the soda fountain.

I could eat some fine food from Southern Eatery, Phillip’s Grocery, Annie’s, The Copper Kettle, The Chicken Coop, or JB’s on the Square. And then I could turn around on a Friday night and sing karaoke at JB’s, which happens to also have the best karaoke around. I even sing karaoke with my state representative John Faulkner.

We have a great little newspaper The South Reporter, which is the highlight of everyone’s week. I could go print some fliers or T-shirts at South Center Printing, or have them design a logo for my business (which we did and it is fantastic). Go to the cleaners, dentist, see Renee Wright (our beloved FNP), get a massage from Max, go pick up our car tags, pay our property taxes, make a deposit in the bank, talk to our insurance man, mail a package at the post office, visit three museums, two art galleries, three antique shops (including my favorite Trashy Women).

And I could do all of this walking...... and during this walk, I am greeting and talking to every person (black and white) that I meet. And I truly feel that we are genuinely interested in one another.

And then when I want to stop for a breather, I could run on over to The Bottomless Cup coffee shop for an excellent latte and pastry. While I am sitting there, I am likely to run into our great mayor, some local artists, our aldermen, my friends, and we will all smile and have great conversation.

And Blues music? Well, Beale Street ain’t got nothing on Hill Country Blues. And we have so many parties, clubs, functions, dinners, that I seriously sometime have a hard time keeping it all straight. But what a fun way to live.

I love this life.
