First class medical care here at home

Letter to the Editor:

Dr. Kenneth Williams and the Alliance HealthCare organization have been providing health care for my family for about 36 years. We have had our share of individual and family medical problems. During this long period of time, we have visited the Alliance ER and have been admitted numerous times to the hospital in Holly Springs. In all instances, we have been delighted with the medical assistance and care received.

You might be thinking as compared to what? This is why I am sending this testimonial letter to the editor. My family has moved 30 times in the last 60 years and we have been served by probably half that many hospitals. We have been relatively happy with medical care from all of them, but not any better than what we have received here in Holly Springs. In fact I don’t recall a time, other than right here at home, that a doctor has ever called me on the weekend to discuss an important health issue. Dr. Williams, as have some of the other doctors in the Alliance HealthCare System, has called me on several occasions. When this happens, it is obvious that he is working late and double-checking important medical data. This level of concern, accountability and responsibility, in my experience, is the actions of a professional.

Admittedly, the hospital building (contrary to the clinic) is not as big or as new looking as the larger hospitals in nearby cities. We have also been served well in those hospitals. However, they can’t and have not been able to provide the personal touch that comes from the smaller staff of medical  and administrative personnel that we are fortunate to have in Holly Springs.

I will admit, at one time, I thought that if I were really sick, I had rather go to the distant and bigger hospitals.  In some extreme cases that still may be true. But, if more specialized medical treatment was needed, I am confident that Dr. Williams and his staff of doctors would refer a patient there in a timely manner. What has happened over time, is that I have come to believe, based on many years of experience, that my family and I can get very adequate personalized “overall treatment” right here at home. I believe this is true for the ER, hospital and Alliance Clinic.

I think our community is fortunate to have such outstanding medical care in Marshall County. Looking back, it is easy to see that Dr Williams’ vision and medical related goals are being progressively realized. He is supporting our community with first class medical care and providing great jobs for local citizens.

I believe we will see a new hospital in Marshall County, sometime in the future, due to the effort, vision, goals and determination that is descriptive of Dr. Williams’ contributions in the past. In my opinion and from my experience, medical care just keeps getting better and better right here at home. I believe that will continue and even accelerate if we as a community are as supportive of the local health care facilities as these facilities are to us. Together is better.

Sincerely,
Roy G. Ray
