Bank of Holly Springs

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor: Every four- or five-years people in the city, county, and/or state come through and campaign for the citizens to vote for them based on what they hope to do to improve something or to better the community, city, and/or state. Well, I have recently had the opportunity to sit in on a couple of the boards in Holly Springs, the Holly Springs Mayor and Board of Aldermen and the Marshall County Board of Supervisors. I would like to invite the community to take time and sit in and listen.

It is time for us, the residents and citizens of this city and county, to hold elected officials accountable for making the right decisions and update Marshall County.

It’s time for a victory not only for the county but for the people. It’s time for aldermen and supervisors to put a plan in action, research the plan, present it to the public, and allow questions, statements, and advice.

It is time for the aldermen (city) and supervisors (county) to STOP frolicking with the citizens livelihood. We live in the 21st century where there is no reason for Marshall County to be left behind. The same responsibilities being put on teachers with No Child Left Behind is also the same responsibilities expected of you for this community.

I see your works in Byhalia, but the county is bigger than Byhalia.

Board of Supervisors, I would love to attend more meetings However, they are held at 9:00 A.M. I work therefore, I am unable to attend the meetings unless I take off as I have done in the past. Is this fair to me? Is it fair to the citizens? I have heard you talk about street signs. I have also heard you talk about the conditions of some streets. Are these the biggest responsibilities you have?

Explain to the citizens, explain to me, what are your duties? According to the website, The Board of Supervisors oversee county operations and enacts ordinances and resolutions to promote the health, safety, and welfare of citizens and businesses in the county, and approves the annual budget and millage rate which funds the operations of the offices and departments. Will you explain openly, honestly, and straight forward to the public what this means? What are you elected to do for this county?

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen, it is shameful, how disrespectful you are to one another in open meetings. Some of you come late or not at all. If there is no quorum, there will be no meeting and I am quite sure you know this. This is business, this is your job, you get paid to meet twice a month, to represent the district. You campaigned for this job, remember? You should be following the guidelines set before you and do the right thing. But in order to make that happen, you must show up!

Marshall County, we need growth, we need people who love people and want what is best for the people. We need people who can handle situations professionally. We need to move beyond voting for popularity and vote for humanity. We do not have to be left behind.
