LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
To the Editor:
This is not a rebuttal of anyone’s letter nor is it to condemn anyone’s comments that have been made about COVID-19.
COVID-19 has consumed our lives as of late. But, there is one thing I have to disagree with. When people start comparing going to a football game or going to church with shopping, they will say things like, “If you can go to Walmart, then you should be able to go to church or to a football game.” I would just like to tell you why they should not be used with going to Walmart
When going to Walmart, if someone is coming near me, I can turn and go in a different direction. If at church and I’m seated, I can’t move every five seconds. I can in Walmart. I can go down an aisle and see someone without a mask and I can turn around and go another way. I can hear sneezing and I can run away. I can make sure I am near no one.
At church, at a football game, I can do neither of those things if the stands/pews are full. Plus, at church there is loud singing. There are coughs and sneezes. I can’t get up and run. I would look stupid. At the games there are people yelling and screaming – loudly. And from what we have learned, singing and talking loudly passes the germs quicker and easier than just talking quietly. In Walmart, hopefully, it is a rather quiet place.
I agree that getting back to normal is needed and I also agree that church is necessary. I just don’t agree that they are the same as shopping. Going to Walmart is totally different than going to church or going to a football game. So, please, people, stop comparing the two. They are apples and oranges.
