Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
It was with great dismay that I read about the shooting death of a young man March 15, 2026, in the March 26, 2026, issue of the South Reporter. Equally distressing was the same front-page article about the future of healthcare in Marshall County.
Despite heroic efforts by EMS personnel in the Walmart parking lot awaiting helicopter transport to the trauma center, the young man did not survive from his wound. Though the outcome result might not have been different, there can probably be little disagreement that resuscitative efforts would have been more appropriately performed in a hospital setting rather than in a parking lot.
Marshall Countians, it is time to do better. Uniting to provide the best medical outcomes for our citizens is at hand. Let us band together in cooperation to make this happen.
