Letter to the Editor

• Another discussion on the marquee sign/speed bumps

Dear Editor

Again I would like to thank Mayor Terry (who I don’t know personally, so there is no partiality being shown here) for listening and leading.

Also thank you to the few aldermen who listened, made their decision, then cast their vote. A short explanation or discussion is all that is needed on topics so minimal. As I listened to the City Council meeting on October 7, I was sickened to hear yet another train wreck over a marquee sign and speed bumps.

Obviously the marquee sign is too large for the MultiPurpose Building or the former mayor would have brought a bulldozer in to install it. This huge waste of taxpayers dollars, which was put to a vote, is apparently in the way and needs to go some place large enough to house it. Period.

Next, the oh so common laughing and giggling before the last vote was cast; there is nothing funny about the state in which our city has been left in. As far as the speed bumps go, they are illegal.

Illegally, there are no warning signs for them as well; yet another huge waste of taxpayers dollars. Please stop the absurdity and take them up.

Next, if you ran for this office, please be in attendance. Your thoughts might be a little more respected. Lastly, a lateral transfer usually means a similar level position with similar pay. The two positions at the utility are not similar nor should the pay be similar. I would think? That standard protocol? Would be to advertise the position, interview, then decide if there should be a move from within? Keeping it professional would be greatly appreciated from the citizens.

Again, continued prayers for our city, county, and all leaders.

Fondly,

Camille Shaw
