July kicks off to a good start

The month of July has kicked off quickly in Marshall County and Holly Springs. There are many exciting events already lining up on this month’s agenda you will be sure not to miss.

This Friday, July 8, the grand opening and ribbon cutting for Issac Chapel Rosenwald Historical Museum and Education Center will be held at 11 a.m. Committee member Terry King Moore announced other activities will follow after the ribbon cutting. The school was built by donations received from Julius Rosenwald, a philanthropist and part owner of Sears, Roebuck and Company. Rosenwald established the Rosenwald Fund which donated millions to support the education of African American children in the South.

Following the ribbon cutting, Rust College will be hosting their second annual basketball enthusiast summer camp starting July 11.

According to Rust College president Dr. Ivy R. Taylor, elementary, middle and high school students are invited to experience the five day camp that will teach basketball skills and drills necessary for success in the sport.

Rust College athletic director and Rust alumnus Jarvis Stephen said the camp will teach kids the skills needed for shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork, defense and offense. It will be fun learning to be the best you can be.

The camp will be held at the McMillan Multi-Purpose Building and will begin at 9 a.m daily. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Trophies will be awarded to deserving participants on the last day of camp.

Bikers and Blues night will be held again in July 14. Christy Owens, director of the Holly Springs Main Street and Chamber, announced that everyone is invited to come out to this free event in beautiful Holly Springs.

Bikers and Blues night is sure to be a wonderful time filled with music for the whole family to come out and enjoy. I certainly enjoyed my first ever Bikers and Blues night this past month where I got the chance to listen to musical guest, Duwayne Burnside. He had a great show! I, along with others, enjoyed great country blues, good food, and great drinks

And of course it would not be July if there wasn’t a youth football or cheerleading signup for this fall

Sanchez Blake, director of Parks and Recreation Department, announced the extended registration for Mustang youth football and cheerleading for this fall. Registration is extended through July 14, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Holly Springs Multi-Purpose Building, 235 Memphis, Street. Registration youth football is $80 and cheer registration is $25.

As we close the month of July students will be getting ready for the 2022-2023 school year and our day-today routines will pick back up. So, why not enjoy all the festivities you can to close the summer out with a bang? I know I will!
