Bailey Eubanks

Close to Nowhere

That kid who sings so good

Almost everyone around here knows Bailey Eubanks — he’s that kid who sings like Elvis.

Bailey was 17 when I first met him. My youngest brother and I had brought my youngest granddaughter, who also sings beautifully, to JB’s on the Square for Karaoke night.

Maybe the second or third time Remy and I went back to JB’s, I asked the late Lynn Pullen about Bailey. She told me his age, that he was still in school and he had been singing for years.

Over the next month or so, all Bailey’s gang of friends   and Remy and I became good buddies.

Bailey, who is way too cute for his own good, pretty much always had girl problems. Such is the life of a teenage boy though.

I’m not a country music fan, but I really enjoyed hearing Bailey, and Michael Dunlap and Mark Cox and Remy and assorted other characters belting out country songs. I found out later that just because the guys were singing it and I loved it, didn’t mean the original was that good.

I’ve watched Bailey mature from a shy teenager to a still shy young man. However, when he gets up on stage and you put a microphone in front of him and a driving beat behind him, he becomes “Bailey the Star!”

And he is a star. That young man is going to go far in the music industry. And his journey is taking off fast this coming Sunday night.

My Bailey — our Bailey — is headed for American Idol and we all hope on to Hollywood on the fast track to becoming famous.

If you’re interested, there’s a party Sunday night at JB’s, to watch Bailey on American Idol —- local Channel 24, 7 p.m. His mom, Dawn Eubanks, who sings as well as he does, is planning a big send-off to Hollywood for her young man.

The first time I heard Bailey sing I was floored. As I became used to him and expected great things from him, I wasn’t disappointed.

Bailey can sing. And he sings with a joy-filled heart because he’s doing what he loves.

Good Luck Bailey!
