You might have noticed that’s it’s been raining a lot lately.

Strangely enough, that’s caused me to rant and rave like a crazy person.

I’m betting that half of the drivers on the road during the rain have no idea that if it’s raining and you have your windshield wipers on that you should also have your headlights on. It is a law, but more than that, it helps prevent accidents. If you don’t have your headlights on, oncoming traffic can’t see you clearly. Traffic behind you can’t see you either because your taillights aren’t on either.

Me, personally, I have my headlights on all the time. I want other traffic to know I’m there.

Driving rules always make me think about the simple rule of not drinking and driving. This is one law that makes total sense. Really, how does driving when you can’t walk straight make any sense at all?

I saw an interview with a man from some sort of liquor lobby. He was protesting a lower blood alcohol level. He said that it wasn’t fair that the law dictates how many drinks he could have with his steak dinner.

I don’t think he understood the main point of the proposed new blood alcohol level. I don’t think many people care how much you drink in a restaurant. The problem is when you get behind the wheel of a car after so many drinks.

Call a cab. Call your spouse. Call a friend. As long as you’re not behind the wheel of your car, you can be a drunk as you want to be.

I’d say that 90 percent of the drivers on the roads are fairly decent drivers and try to obey traffic laws and observe common courtesy.

So, I have to admit to a certain amount of glee when I see a car pulled over on Hwy. 7 between Holly Springs and Oxford.

Normally, I drive the speed limit now. I’ve learned, after enough of my own speeding tickets, that it just makes good economical sense.

When I’m driving 60 on Hwy. 7 and I nearly get blown off the road by a car going at least 80, it irritates me. So, when I see that same car sitting on the side of the road with a Highway Patrol car sitting behind him, that certain amount of glee kicks in.

Most driving/traffic laws are simply common courtesy or for safety reasons. Just imagine how much fun driving would be if everyone followed the rules.
