Wilma Joyce Skidmore Payne
Wilma Joyce Skidmore Payne, 80, from Victoria, Miss., passed away on Sunday morning, 6 a.m., July 25, 2021. She was born March 9, 1941, in Silva, Mo. to Lewis Raymond Skidmore and Ruth Settles Skidmore. She was the youngest of five girls, Virginia Skidmore, Louise Mauk, Marline Bennett (Elijah), and Margorie Flirt, five brothers, Floyd Fortner, Paul Skidmore, Richard Skidmore, Kenny Skidmore and Gary Strickland.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alfred Smith Payne Sr.; youngest child, Patrick Lewis Payne; and great-grandson, Michael Emmett Hughes. She leaves her loving daughter and caretaker, Elizabeth Hughes; sons, David Payne Sr. (Kathy), Alfred Smith Payne Jr. (Michelle); grandchildren, David Payne Jr. (Barbara), Justin Payne, Ashley Gagnon (Chris), Eric Hughes (Kelsy), Gunnar Hughes (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Frankie Candelairo, Charlie Payne, Lillie Hughes, Brantlee Hughes, Jackson Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.
She was co-owner/ operator with her husband at Payne's Corner Restaurant in Bloomington, Ill. before moving to the Mid-South in the early 1970s. She worked 13 years at Hanes hosiery in Olive Branch, Miss. She was co-owner/operator with her husband of AL Payne Security, Olive Branch, Miss. She was co-owner/operator of Party Bounce Rentals in Olive Branch, Miss.
There will be a memorial service for Al and Wilma Payne at the Byhalia Cemetery on Sept. 18, 2021, at 3 p.m. A reception following service will be at 5491 Stonecrest, Olive Branch, Miss.
