Viola Sumlar Watson

Viola Sumlar Watson, 88, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 8, 2019, at her home. The widow of Oscar Douglas Watson, she was a member of Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks where she served on the mother's board and was in the church choir. She was a member of several gospel singing groups, the Golden Stars and Mighty Princess, and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired X-ray technician for the Marshall County Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Dec. 13 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home, from 1-4 p.m., and from 5-7 p.m. at Mt. Newell MB Church; and on Dec. 14 at New Dimension Salt and Light Ministries in Holly Springs from 10-10:55 a.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Pastor Michael Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Newell Memorial Garden in Red Banks.

She leaves four daughters, Claudia Watson and Mary Watson (Luther) Williams, both of Holly Springs, Mamie Cummingham and Shomekia Watson (Terrance) Rayford, both of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, Melvin Watson of Memphis, Lee Ernest (Elaine) Watson of Potts Camp, Oscar Douglas Watson Jr. of Corinth, Franklin (Elmira) Watson of Ashland, Chester Earl Watson of Holly Springs, Randy Ray Watson of Como; four sisters, Katie Koch and Loraine Carr both of LaDera Ranch, Calif., Charlene McNeil and Doretha Mason, both of Homestead, Fla.; 29 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by a son, Ornal Louis Watson.
