Vernon Wade Stroupe

Vernon Wade Stroupe, 85, died July 15, 2019, at his home in Ashland. The widower of Helen Rose Akins Stroupe, he was a member of Ashland Church of Christ, served as president of the board of Gray Academy High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was retired after 33 years working for Swords Farm; he worked 15 years as a construction worker and 15 years at Hobson Lumber Company.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 18 at Ashland Church of Christ. Min. Donald Roberson officiated. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery. McBride Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves one son, Rodney Vernon Stroupe (Jolene) of Ashland; one sister, Bonnie Jordon of Fort Cobb, Okla.; and two brothers, Billy Stroupe (Bonnie) of Jonesboro, Ark., Glen Stroupe of Southaven; and his caregiver, Jolene Gammons.

He was preceded in death by one son, Micheal Steven Stroupe.
