Sherman Avant

Sherman Avant, 78, of Memphis, Tenn., died Nov. 3, 2018, at his home. A former member of the Masonic Lodge, he was a retired truck driver for ABF Truck Line.

Visitation will be Nov. 9 at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m., and on Nov. 10 at the church from 10 to 10:55 a.m.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. at Hebron MB Church in Michigan City, where he was a member. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery in Lamar. Pastor Andre Williams will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Lizzie M. Avant; three sons, Gregory Hudson of Mt. Pleasant, Antonio Avant Sr., Antwan Avant Sr., both of Memphis; three daughters, Sharon Mitchell of Chicago, Ill., Cal Crawford, Velma Crumpton, both of Memphis; a sister, Opal Harris of Memphis; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell W. Avant.
