Dr. Ruthie Mae Smith Adams

Dr. Ruthie Mae Smith Adams, 82, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 17, 2017, at her home. The widow of James I. Adams, she was a retired teacher from the Greenville City School System. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the Marshall County Democratic Committee and was a Sunday school teacher.

Visitation will be Sept. 22, from 2-7 p.m. and with the family from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 23 at Anderson Chapel CME Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four children, Janice Munsel Adams of New Orleans, La., Mary Helene Vaughn of Louisville, Ky., Merrill Jerome Adams of Willingboro, New Jersey, Rev. James Cedric Adams of Florence, Ala.; three sisters, Florence Smith, Caroline Spiva, both of Atlanta, Ga., Eula Smith of Southaven; six brothers, James Watkins of Memphis, Tenn., Commodore Smith Jr. of Nesbit, Everson Smith, Eldridge Smith, Melvin Smith, all of Hernando, and Carl Smith of Horn Lake.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Adams.
