Opal Jean Thompson

May 28, 1936-October 18, 2020

Jean was born to Melvin and Lily Potter in Potts Camp, Miss., where she lived her entire 84 years. Jean was kind, compassionate, forgiving, loving, and a genuine lady. What an infinite blessing she was to her family and so many children she cared for throughout the years.

Jean became a sister to Ruby Churchill, Francis Carpenter, Maxine Thomas, Mary Stanton, Louise Evans, Dorothy Frasier, Bobbie Churchill, and Sonny Potter.

On April 14, 1956, she married the love of her life, Dudley Thompson. In the years following, they had two children, Lisa Thompson McMillen and Mark Thompson. She was a loving mother and a deeply devoted wife. Jean thoroughly enjoyed children and babysat in her home for many years. She loved each and every child and treated them as her own. Even in her last days she would talk often about the kids she kept and found great pleasure in seeing them as adults with their own children.

Jean's greatest joy in life was family her siblings, inlaws, nieces, nephews, children; but especially her grandchildren, Devin and Matt Bright, Macy and Kye Thompson, and her great grandchild, Gabe Bright. She very much enjoyed visiting with family and being involved in their lives. She was also a member of Temperence Hill Baptist Church.

Jean was preceded in her journey to heaven by her husband, Dudley, and all of her siblings with the exception of Mrs. Ruby Churchill.

Ms. Jean will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren. Her love has left a lasting impression in all of their lives.

Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. on Oct. 22, with funeral services at 2 p.m. at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Steve Wilson will officiate.

Burial will be at Old Macedonia cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband as they are now finally reunited in heaven for eternity.
