Mrs. Troy Miller

Mrs. Troy Miller, 95, the daughter of the late Clinton and Lizzie Miller, was born in Laws Hill July 22, 1923. She departed this life on Aug. 15, 2018, at The American Village in Indianapolis, Ind. She was the widow of Martin Miller. They were married almost 50 years. She worked many years in the dry-cleaning industry as a seamstress. She also provided home daycare service to family and friends.

She loved to cook and her father taught her at an early age to tell people to “wash your hands and come eat.” She completed her adult education in 1977. In later years she joined the Orange Mound Senior Citizens group. In 2000, she placed, first, second and third in the Memphis Urban Garden Contest. She also sang in the Etta Richie Gospel Choir.

A former member of New Hope Baptist Church in Laws Hill, she was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn.

She leaves three daughters, Lynell Miller of Indianapolis, Beatrice Peete (Paul) of Matteson, Ill., and Verene Graham of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a grandson she raised, Calvin Miller of Memphis; a sister, Elmira Curry of Waterford; 11 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 44 great-great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Cile Miller; brothers, Harry, Elcue and Kelly; and sister Remolia; and her step-brother and sisters, Nathan, Reola, Rosa and Ozell.
