Mable Stockard Whitlock

Mable Stockard Whitlock, 85, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died July 1, 2018. She was the widow of Edward Whitlock Sr. She attended W.T. Sims Elementary School, Rosenwald High School and Mississippi Industrial College, all in Holly Springs. She was a member of Walker Memorial Christian Church in Memphis, where she was the second woman in church history ordained as an elder. During her 58 years as a member, she taught at VBS and sang in the choir. She was president of the choir for many years. She was an active member of many groups in the church. She was vice president of the Pace Corp. credit union for many years and executive housekeeper at the Executive Inn until she retired.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 6 at The Healing Cathedral in Memphis. Burial was in New Park Cemetery. E.H. Ford Mortuary in Memphis was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four children, Lillie Matlock, Agnes Dancy (Benjamin), James Whitlock (Sherrie), Edward Whitlock Jr.; a brother, Lee Andrew Stockard (Earline); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings.
