Lela Sharries Jeffries-Perteet

Lela Sharries Jeffries-Perteet, 56, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Waterford, died May 24, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. The widow of John Edward Perteet, she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., a graduate of Rust College, the first female president of SGA at Rust. She received her master's degree from DePaul University in Chicago. She was self-employed in project management.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. May 30 at Wilkins Chapel CME Church Cemetery in Waterford. Pastor Lexine Wilkins-Smith officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four children, Angela Jeffries of Pearland, Texas, Amoirie Perteet of Memphis, Jonathan Perteet and Jalen Perteet, both of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Betty Martin of Waterford; and two brothers, Alfred Jean Jeffries and Earvin Jeffries, both of Waterford.

She was preceded in death by 13 siblings.
