LaVerne Benford Jones

LaVerne Benford Jones, 102, of Holly Springs, died March 27, 2022, at her home in the Chulahoma community. She was a member of Chulahoma MB Church where she served on the Mother's Board, and was a Sunday school teacher, missionary and choir member. She served on the board of the Ida B. Wells Museum and was a member of the Marshall County Retired Teachers Association. She was a life member of the NAACP and National Education Association and was a retired educator with the Marshall County School System.

Visitation will be held at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home on April 1 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. and on April 2 at Chulahoma MB Church from 10-10:55 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Rev. Lonnie Whitfield, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She leaves a son, Ezekiel "Zeke" Owens of Holly Springs; granddaughter, Zamyia Owens of Holly Springs; nieces who were her caregivers, Dixie Hull, Velma Tate, both of Byhalia; and nephew who was a caregiver, Willie Morris Bowens of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Jones; sisters, Sadie Brown, Losta Benford; and a brother, George Benford.
