Kevin Loy McGraw

Retired Naval Lieutenant Commander Kevin Loy McGraw, 48, most recently of Norfolk, VA, passed away on August 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lyle McGraw; his sister, Rochelle L. Madden; and nephew, Sean McGraw.

Kevin, a Logistician at CACI International, Inc., received a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Workforce Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.; and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. He served in the United States Navy as an enlisted submarine quartermaster and then as a supply officer for over 28 years. He served on the following great war ships: USS Birmingham SSN-695, USS Parche SSN-683, USS Tucson SSN-770, and USS Nassau LHA-4. He received a Presidential Unit Citation for his service.

Kevin enjoyed music, surfing, water volleyball, ultimate frisbee, snowboarding, skateboarding, cycling, and riding motorcycles.

Left to cherish Kevin’s memory are his wife, Gloria Jean Gallagher McGraw; his mother, Shirley Spain McGraw; and his sons, Waynesen Piilani McGraw and Ian Lee KeaKahumoku McGraw. Kevin also leaves behind his siblings: Richard D. McGraw (Joni) of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Patrick L. McGraw of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Robin Y. Townsend (David) of Clarksburg, Tenn.; Kelly A. McGraw (Elizabeth) of Denver, Co.; and Kimberly Drown (Keith) of Plymouth, Mass. Additionally, Kevin had the following nieces and nephews: Shannon Gilmond, Jesse Nixon, Rhiannon Troupin, Alexander Waters, Kristina Phillips, Laura Drown, Lauren McGraw, and Emily McGraw; great-nephew Steven Troupin and great-niece Pepper Nixon. He will also be fondly remembered by a host of colleagues and friends.

The family is planning an interment at 9 a.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va., on December 7, 2018, with a memorial to follow at Covenant United Methodist Church (2004 Dock Landing Rd., Chesapeake, Va. 23321). Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Hawaii (c/o Hale Malama, 1822 Ke’eaumoku Street, Honolulu, HI., 96822) or a charity of your choice.
