J.R. “Red” Pryor

J.R. “Red” Pryor, 95, of Laws Hill, died Nov. 12, 2018, at his home. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a Sunday school superintendent, a member of the deacon board and a church usher. He was retired from the U.S. Forestry Department.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 17 at New Hope MB Church in Laws Hill, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Thomas Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Opatria McEwen Pryor; four daughters, Bobbie Campbell of Batavia, Ill., Betty Guy of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Freedonia Jones, Mary Shaw, both of Holly Springs; six sons, J.R. Pryor Jr., R.C. Pryor, S.T. Pryor, all of Aurora, Ill., Ivory Pryor of Holly Springs, A.D. Pryor of Michigan City, Willie Pryor of Ft. Wayne; 31 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three children, Cecil Pryor, John C. Pryor and Sid Lavel Dean.
