John Wesley “Bobby” Dowdy
John Wesley “Bobby” Dowdy, 71, of Holly Springs, formerly of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Dec. 1, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch. A retired laborer for Southern Linen Co., he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Roberts Chapel CME Church in Lamar. He later joined Friendship MB Church in West Palm Beach.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 10 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Lamar. Elder Larry Isom officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Verlean Dowdy of Sugar Grove, Ill.; three sons, Kenny Dowdy Jones of Memphis, Tenn., Lamont Dowdy of West Palm Beach, Gregory Dowdy of Holly Springs; two daughters, Stephanie Dowdy Phillips (Edward) of Sugar Grove, Ill., Trina Dowdy of West Palm Beach; a brother, Henry Clyde Turner (Melvine) of West Palm Beach; three sisters, Dessie Rochell of Las Vegas, Nev., Georgia Ann McNeal of Moscow, Tenn., Wensie Bailey of Moscow, Tenn.; and 18 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Henderson.
