Joe Washington

Joe Washington, 96, of Ashland, died Sept. 16, 2019, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch. The widower of Sarah Luellen Washington, he was a member of Greenwood MB Church in Lamar where he served as a church deacon. He was a self-employed carpenter, and retired from Wurlizter.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Miracle Temple Salt and Light Ministries in Lamar. Rev. Dr. Patrick Washington officiated. Burial was in Greenwood MB Church Cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves eight daughters, Mattie Jordan, Bobbie Smith, Linda Malone, Berdean Malone, Martha Turner, Cynthia Sanders, all of Memphis, Tenn., Minnie Williams of Ashland, Juanita Paige of Olive Branch; six sons, Willie Washington, Wendell Washington, Cornell Washington, Joseph Washington and Billy Washington, all of Memphis, David Washington of Olive Branch; one sister, Ella Mae White of Ashland; two brothers, James Washington and John Washington, both of Ashland; and 87 grand- and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daugther, Dorothy J. Bean; a grandson, Anthony J. Washington; and a brother, Rev. Walter Washington.
