Jean McCommon

Jean McCommon went to her heavenly home March 4, 2024 at the age of 98 years.

Jean was born in Memphis, Tenn., to Margaret Short (McIntyre). She was a graduate of Methodist School of Nursing where she earned her Registered Nurse degree. She married Grady McCommon, Jr. in 1947 in Memphis where they started and raised their family of four children. (Sandy, Margaret, Meridith, and Nancy)

Jean served the community as a dedicated RN in Memphis hospitals and clinics. Her love for her family and teaching grew from her commitment to caring for and developing others. She left a legacy of having developed foundational procedures and curriculum as a teaching RN for the City of Memphis hospital system.

Jean was a long-time member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church in Memphis and current member of Byhalia United Methodist Church. As God's plan for each of us is to know Him, love Him, serve Him, and enjoy a relationship with Him, Jean came to know and trust the Lord and expressed her understanding that faith was not just a "head" thing, but also involved giving her "heart" to her Savior. After living a long and good life, Jean now resides in Heaven.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband Grady W. McCommon Jr. She is survived by her son, Sandy (Judy) McCommon; and daughters Margaret Williams, Meridith McCommon (Jim Gibson), and Nancy (Mike) Sing. Jean leaves six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Miss. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 4-6 pm. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 8, at Hornbeak Cemetery in Hornbeak, Tenn.
