Henry Oliver Jarrett

Henry Oliver Jarrett, 95, of Potts Camp, MS, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 31, 2022. He passed from this life to his eternal life peacefully at his home. He ended the year in the presence of His Lord and Savior.

Henry was born July 23, 1927, in Marshall County, MS, to Ollie and Ada Hopper Jarrett. He grew up in a hardworking family of five boys, working by farming and logging with mules, and traveling by walking and horse drawn wagons. They lived south of Potts Camp in the Bethlehem-Cornersville communities. He attended school at Overton School, a one room schoolhouse, and also Potts Camp School. Henry married Mary Frances Alderson Jarrett in 1948. They raised two children, Miriam and Mark. Henry was a faithful and active member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He began a work career in sales for Jennison-Wright Corporation, supplying lumber and cross-ties for railroad construction in North Mississippi and West Tennessee. Henry followed this in his longtime job with Southern Brick and Tile, selling brick in a five-state territory of Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri. By building relationships and trust, his customers became friends as he supplied quality brick to many homes, schools, churches, and industries across the Mid-South. He also sold Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac vehicles "on the side" for Union Auto Company, enjoying the car business and his many loyal, repeat customers. He also served his community as an Alderman for the town of Potts Camp.

Henry was a faithful follower of Christ and impacted many lives. He lived his life and raised his family based on his Christian beliefs. He was a loving, supportive, Christian example in his family as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was affectionately known to his family as "Dandy" and he lived up to that name. He was the ultimate example of a Southern gentleman with his firm handshake, smile, and dress clothes. He will be remembered as a faithful servant of Christ and righteous man. He studied the Word of God and lived it out daily. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Henry is survived by his loving family, which includes his children--Miriam Ormon (Clark) of Hickory Flat, MS, and Mark Jarrett (Vicki) of Tupelo, MS. He will be remembered and missed as Dandy by his grandchildren--Jennifer Coker (Ben), Angela Ormon, Allison Rakestraw (Josh), Courtney Wilemon (Trey), and John Mark Jarrett (Ashley) as well as his 12 great-grandchildren--Abbey, Will, Mac, Carrington, Clara Frances, Sam Henry, Oliver, Jack, Adelyn, Ellie Kate, Luke, and Mary Margaret. He is also survived by his brother, Russell Jarrett, of Burleson, TX, Karla Jarrett of Tupelo, MS, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Henry will also be missed by his caregivers--Shirley Pannell, Candy Taylor, Jimmie Lea, Bridget Watson, and Camille Kizer as well as the staff of HomeCare Hospice.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, Ollie and Ada; his three brothers--Harvey, Aaron, and Erskine; and one sister, Christina.

Henry's family and others left to cherish his memory are saddened by his death but celebrate a life well lived and the assurance that he is rejoicing with Jesus.
