Hase E. Phillips

Hase Edward Phillips was born in Chulahoma, MS, on April 7, 1949, to the union of Joseph and Velma Phillips. He was the sixth of seven children. At an early age, Hase accepted Christ at Chulahoma Missionary Baptist Church.

Hase graduated from Henry High School in Byhalia, MS. Relocating to Aurora, IL, Hase married Bertha Bell. They enjoyed a happy marriage raising three children - Pat Jordan, Greg Phillips and Tamar Phillips. He went on to receive his Associates in business from Waubonsee Community College.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. During the Vietnam War he served as a Sergeant and earned a bronze star. For 38 years he worked at Commonwealth Edison, first as a lineman. He retired as a Construction Supervisor.

In 1976, Hase became a member of Main Baptist Church. Faithfully dedicating his life of service to the Lord, he served in the choir and with the Deacons Ministry. For 30 years under the leadership of Pastor Dezo McGill and Pastor Julian E. Spencer he served as a Deacon and Chairman of Deacons Ministry. He was a beautiful soul with a servant's heart who touched countless people.

He lived an active and healthy lifestyle. He studied the Word of God, practiced the Word of God, enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing laughs and fashion tips with his nieces Lashawn, Christina and LaTonya. Among his athletic pursuits, he enjoyed playing tennis and working out at the gym.

On November 23, 2021, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren, Hase transitioned to his heavenly home. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Joseph and Velma Phillips; brothers, Lynwood King and Charles Phillips; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Phillips, Ruby Griffin, and Molly King; and son-in-law, Booker T. Jordan.

Hase will be cherished and missed by his loving wife, Bertha Phillips; daughter, Patricia Jordan; sons, Gregory Phillips and Tamar (Jessica) Phillips; grandchildren, Alex, Ava Rose, Silvia, Nadia, and Elena; sisters, Marce (Michael) Armstrong and Quine Ceal (Russ) Shaw; brothers, Joseph Phillips and Morris (Fannie) Phillips; motherin-law, Willie B. Griffin; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Clemons, Willie Jane Robinson, Joyce (Stephan) Hill, Loretta Griffin, and Marie Phillips; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Main Baptist Church family.
