Funeral services for Mrs. Georgia Mae Austin Miller of Holly Springs, MS, formally of Winona were held on January 14, 2023; at Asbury United Methodist Church in Holly Springs. The Rev. Frederick Brown officiated the service.
Georgia Mae Miller Austin, 93, passed away at her residence in Holly Springs on Friday, January 6, 2023. She was born to Vol and Minnie Austin on February 13, 1929. Georgia attended school in Louisville, MS and Mary Holmes College in West Point, MS where she received her cosmetologist license.
She met and married her loving husband of 68 years, Rev. Claudell Miller, July 3, 1948. From this union, she became the loving and caring mother of three children; Emma (deceased), Claudia and Wardell.
Georgia worked at Rust College as a beautician for a few years but she always had a passion of caring for the sick and elderly and decided to change careers. She received her nursing license and worked in the nursing field until her retirement.
She was devoted to serving God, caring for her family and assisting her husband with church ministries at various United Methodist Churches in Attala, Montgomery, Leflore, Webster, Grenada and Marshall counties in Mississippi. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter; Claudia Miller of Stone Mountain, GA; son, Wardell Miller, Holly Springs, MS; granddaughter, Audrey Miller-Okhiria (Peter) of Eads, TN; great-grandson, Eromosele Claudell Okhiria (Raven) of Memphis, TN; great-granddaughter, Jada Ayanna Fummilayo Okhiria of Memphis, TN; son-in-law, Alva Beck of Holly Springs, MS; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Jackson of Cleveland, OH; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Claudell Miller; daughter, Emma J. Miller-Beck; four sisters, Louise Cooper, Emma Robinson, Minnie Martin and Walterine Strickland; two brothers, Robert Austin and Richard Austin.
