George "Monk"Hampton

George "Monk" Hampton, 80, of Holly Springs, died February 9, 2024, at Holly Springs Rehab and Healthcare Center. He was a member of Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar where he served as a deacon and was in the church choir. He was a member of the Stars of Faith Gospel Group and was a logging/timber cutter.

Visitation will be held at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home on Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Feb. 18 at Sand Hill MB Church from 11-11:55 a.m. with services at 12 noon. Pastor Darrell Mays will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He leaves a daughter, Martha Strickland of Ashland; sons, George Hampton Jr. of Holly Springs, Tyrone Davis Hampton of Oxford, Antowin Allen Hampton of Holly Springs; sisters, Dillia Mae Peterson of Ashland, Dorothy Clardy, Lora Hampton, both of Michigan City; brothers, Willie James Hampton or Lamar, Raymond Hampton, Charles Hampton, both of Ashland, Mozell Hampton of Michigan City; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene Hampton, Earnestine Evans, John Hampton and Lee Frances Turner.
