George Lee Poplar

George Lee Poplar, 78, of Michigan City, died July 27, 2020, at his home. He was a member of Hardaway MB Church and a disabled paint technician with Carrier Inc. in Collierville, Tenn.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Hardaway MB Church Cemetery. Pastor Joe Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Valandy Buggs Poplar; a daughter, Thelma Boga (Tracy) of Michigan City; his mother, Eyclean Poplar Hamer of Holly Springs; four brothers, Troy Hamer, Cater Hamer, L.V. Hamer Jr., all of Michigan City, Ira Jackson Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; six sisters, Jenny Gibson, Virginia Gibson, both of Michigan City, Mary Payne of Lamar, Jeanette Hamer, Melinda Shields, Esther Mae Avery, all of Chicago, Ill.; and one grandson, Quintavius Boga of Michigan City.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Bonnie Webb, Ruby Smith; and a brother, Early Jackson.
