Geneva Laverne Provost

Geneva Laverne Provost, 85, of Forest City, FL, passed away on April 24, 2017. She was born to the late George Whitfield “Whit” and Margarette Elizabeth (Maggie) Nelson on March 5, 1932, in Potts Camp, Mississippi. Affectionately known as “Laverne,” she was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She met her surviving husband, John “Jack” Provost, in Memphis, Tenn., while Jack was in the Navy and it was truly love at first sight. The two were married for 60 years as of March 9, 2017. Laverne and Jack shared many wonderful times together. Laverne loved to socialize, and did so often by playing bingo at different organizations. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Lodge 184, as well as the U.S. Vets Post 104 in Palatka, FL. Laverne worked for Repco for almost 20 years. She later worked as a greeter for Walmart for nearly 3 years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Laverne lived a full and happy life, and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, two brothers, Lynn Nelson, and James Nelson; four sisters, Thelma Childers, Mary Lois Gurley, Juanita Naquin, and Birdie Sue Seitz.

Survivors include her husband John “Jack” Provost; her children Patricia Perkins, Cheryl Provost, JoAnn Provost, and John Jr. and his wife Shay Provost; one sister, Ruth Hazel Ferrell of Munford, Tenn.; one brother, John Nelson of Byhalia; her grandson Michael Provost; her great-grandson Cameron Provost; as well as numerous nieces and nephews residing in Florida and Mississippi.

Visitation was held Saturday, April 29, from 4 p.m. -9 p.m. at Baldwin Fairchild West Altamonte, 90 Weathersfield Ave., Altamonte Springs, Fla.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 6, 11 a.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery on Hwy. 359, Potts Camp. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
