Frances Moore Buchanan

Frances Moore Buchanan passed away on March 24, 2019. Born at home at Mahon Station, six miles west of Holly Springs, she was preceded in death by her husband Jim B. Buchanan; her parents Clarence C. and Alice B. Moore; and her brother C. Carlisle Moore.

A retired math teacher and volunteer math tutor, she was a long-time member of the Holly Springs Garden Club, the Thursday Club, Friends of the Marshall County Library, the Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery and Christ Episcopal Church. She attended Belhaven College and graduated from Ole Miss, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and served as editor of the Ole Miss Annual.

She is survived by her children, Jim B. Buchanan, Jr. (Lynne), Andy H. Buchanan (Debbie), and Alice Moore Buchanan of Auburn, Ala.; four grandchildren, Corrie B. Demmler (Jay) of Allen, Texas; James B. Buchanan, III, (Lisa) of Dallas, Texas, Andrew H. Buchanan, Jr. (Ginger) of Guntown, Miss., and Mary Frances Trash (Devon); plus six great-grandchildren as well as five nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, followed immediately by the service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the service at historic Hill Crest Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family wishes to recognize caregivers Delois Callicutt and Ann Barksdale; RN Terri Smithwick, and the staffs of Spring Valley and Baptist Hospices, Christopher's, and Alliance HealthCare System.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery, Friends of the Marshall County Library, Marshall County Historical Museum, or the organization of your choice.
