Florence Virginia Wilkins Coleman

Florence Virginia Wilkins Coleman, 94, of Byhalia, died Jan. 17, 2017, in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Assoc., North MS Missionary Society, founder of the F.W. Coleman Theater Club, Stir Up the Gift Writers Club, M.O.R.E. Publishers, an author, Friend of the Ida B. Wells Museum, Mississippi Industrial College alumni and the NAACP.  She was a retired school teacher from the Marshall County School System (1986).

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Mt. Pisgah CME Church in Cayce, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Eddie L. Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two children, Rev. Dr. George W. Coleman Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., and Angelee Coleman Grider of Memphis; a brother, Rev. C.O. Wilkins of Holly Springs; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by three siblings, Mary Kizer,  Della B. Wadsworth-Phillips and Ada Wilkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mississippi Industrial College Alumni Association.
