Eugene Steward

Eugene Steward, 89, of Michigan City, died March 18, 2017, at Ashland Health and Rehab. He was a church deacon, a member of the male chorus and a former Sunday school superintendent. He was a retired farmer.

Visitation will be March 24 from 2-7 p.m. and with the family from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and on March 25 from 10-10:55 a.m. at the church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on March 25 at Union Hill MB Church in Ashland, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Michael Steward will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Ellie B. Reaves Steward; eight daughters, Jennie Nelson of Jackson, Tenn., Leatrice Wooden of Michigan City, Barbara Hardaway of Memphis, Tenn., Lavonzella Kee of Michigan City, Nel Steward of Augusta, Ga., Eunice Allen of Lamar, Crystal Steward, Pam Steward, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Eugene Steward Jr. of Jackson, Tenn., Mark Anthony Steward of Memphis, Rev. Michael Steward of Cantonment, Fla.; a sister, Melviater Reaves of Chicago, Ill., a brother, Robert Steward of Maywood, Ill.; and 28 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Steward and Larry Lorenzo Steward.
