Eleanor Lee Ferris Tomlinson
At the age of 93, Eleanor Lee Ferris Tomlinson went to be with the Lord and her loved ones on August 16, 2021. She was the daughter of William Fauntleroy Ferris III and Johnnie Mae La Fever. Her grandparents were William Fauntleroy Ferris II, Eleanor (Nell) Patty Ferris, Marshall Thomas La Fever and Lucy Ella Jones La Fever. She graduated from Holly Springs High School and went on to graduate from Mississippi State University for Women with a B.S. in Home Economics. She belonged to the Jester Social Club where she was a charter member.
She was happily married to Leslie Lloyd Tomlinson Sr. for 64 years, during which time they raised six wonderful children. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, working in the nursery, singing in the choir, moderator of Women of the Church and also the Women's group treasurer. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club.
She led a very active life, teaching kindergarten in her home while her children were young, teaching at Marshall Academy for 16 years, and working as owner and operator of The Bootery and Lee's for 18 years. After retiring, she worked parttime at the First State Bank for 19 years. She loved working in her yard and spent other free time cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister, Margaret Elizabeth Ferris Speakes; sons, William Stanley Tomlinson and Leslie Lloyd Tomlinson Jr., and daughter, Holly Ferris Tomlinson.
She is survived by sons, Robert Stacy Tomlinson Sr. (Debbie) and John Marshall Tomlinson Sr. (Louanne); daughter, Eleanor Patty Tomlinson Stroupe (Hal); grandchildren, Courtney Lee Woodmansee (Scott), Hal Simpson Stroupe Jr. (Jennifer), Leslie Matthew Tomlinson (Tabby), Tyler Ferris Stroupe (Whitney), Brittney Nicole Allen (Dustin), Torey Marie Tomlinson, Heather Leigh Tomlinson, Robert Stacy Tomlinson Jr. (Lindsey), John Marshall Tomlinson Jr. (Christina) and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Holly Springs, MS on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the service following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
