Elder Charles E. Pope

Elder Charles E. Pope, 76, of Byhalia, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died December 2, 2025, at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital. He was an associate pastor at Union Valley MB Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, combat veteran of the Vietnam War, recipient of the Purple Heart and former member of Pilgrim Rest MB Church. He was in transportation for Whispering Woods Hotel in Olive Branch.

Visitation will be held at Union Valley MB Church on Dec. 13 from 3-5 p. m. and on Dec. 14 at New Mt. Gilliam Church from 12-12:55 p.m. with services at 1 p.m. Minister Alvin Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Mary Jane Street Pope; daughters, Samella Davis of Charlotte, NC, Lakisha Street of Holly Springs; son, Kelly Street of Horn Lake; sisters, Precious Pope Simmons of Memphis, Tenn., Tawanda R. Pope of Canton; brothers, Rev. Theodis Pope Sr. of Lancaster, SC, Robert Pope, of Collierville, Tenn., Sherman K. Pope, William E. Pope, both of Memphis, Irvin L. Pope of Southaven; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Dr. James O. Pope Sr. and James W. Pope.
