Elbert Smith

Elbert “E.J.” Smith, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., died June 20, 2017, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. He was a Baptist and a forklift operator for Fruehauf.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Early Grove Cemetery.

He leaves a son, Randall Smith of Memphis; four daughters, Joanie Smith of Ocean Springs, Teresa Watkins (Bro. Bill) of Byhalia, Gail Brooks (Ricky), Michelle Smth of Braden, Tenn.; two brothers, Sammy Smith of Bartlett, Tenn., Don Smith of Millington, Tenn.; three sisters, Mattie Gwaltney of Lebanon, Ore., Betty Gwaltney of Buena Park, Calif., Jean Levine of Hemet, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Jessie Moore, four brothers and four sisters.
