Edward Greer Furner

Edward Greer Furner, 88, of Venice, FL, passed away August 28, 2022. He was born January 27, 1934, in Chicago, IL to Edward and Louise(Greer) Furner.

Ed was raised in Potts Camp, MS. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1954 with a degree in accounting. Ed married Juanita(Nita) Brown in 1952 and they shared their love for 66 years until her passing in 2018.

In 1956, Ed joined IBM, starting as a marketing representative in Memphis, TN. He sold Holiday Inn their first computerized reservation system. He retired in 1987 from the position of VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for IBM Credit Corporation.

Upon retirement, Ed and Nita moved to Hilton Head Island, SC. They loved to travel, entertain, and spend time with their children and grandchildren. Building houses and dabbling in real estate kept Ed busy. Ed was an avid golfer and was very involved in community affairs. He served as president of his golf club, was an elder at his church, and was president of the Southern Seniors Golf Association. Ed and Nita moved to Venice, FL. In 2013.

Ed is survived by his three children Eva Furner, Susan (Chris) Allen and Chris (JoAnn) Furner; his grandchildren, Sara Gibbens, Emily(Grant) Hudish, and great-grandchildren, Kathleen Gibbens, Logan Gibbens, Charles Hudish, and Edward Hudish. Also survived by Pam Neer. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dennis Furner.

Ed will be interred at Providence Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head Island, SC.
